Henri Bourgeois Sancerre Rouge 2013
Wine AdvocateThe lime-green 2013 Sancerre Les Baronnes is a modern classic of the region and a good example to demonstrate the polished aromatic yet authentic, pure and elegant style of Henri Bourgeois' wines. Sourced from chalky clay soils of the hills separating Sancerre from Chavignol this medium-bodied, juicy yet minerally structured and zesty Sauvignon from 20-to 40-year-old vines offers attractive white fruit flavors intertwined with piquant citrus aromas and dusty chalk flavors. This is a very pleasant, well-balanced, already accessible and stimulating Sancerre of good intensity and quality with lovely citrus flavors also in the finish and aftertaste.
Wine SpectatorLight-bodied but with a firm, persistent edge to the blood orange and damson plum fruit flavors, which are inlaid with mild tea and singed sandalwood notes. Herb hints on the finish. Drink now through 2017. 1,500 cases made.
Wine EnthusiastThis is a lighter style of Pinot Noir than some produced in Sancerre today. It brings out perfumes and red-cherry flavors lifted by acidity. The wine is fruity, with hints of wood aging and a juicy aftertaste. Drink now.
