Montevertine Toscana 2012
The standard bearer of the estate, it is aged 24 months in large Slavonian oak barrels and is composed of 90% Sangiovese and 10% Canaiolo (with perhaps a hint of Colorino). The fruit for this bottling comes primarily from a 2.5 hectare parcel of vines planted in 1982 on a south - southeast facing slope. Aged in Slavonian oak barrels for about 24 months. Match with salami, grilled meat, pasta, stews, and bouillabaisse stewed fish.
Wine AdvocateThe 2012 Montevertine is a showcase wine for the vintage and the native red grapes used in this part of Tuscany. It presents a clean and polished bouquet with delicate tones of rose petal, wild berry, cassis, spice and lightly grilled Mediterranean herb. Pretty mineral nuances also create focus and sharpness at the rear. The wine offers a terrific mouthfeel with fresh acidity that keeps the palate clean. This was not the easiest vintage, but Montevertine is intact and beautiful nonetheless. It will be fascinating to watch its evolution over the next ten years.
