Château-de-Chantegrive Graves 2012
Wine Enthusiast91-93. Barrel sample. This is a solid, tannic wine that's deeply concentrated and somewhat dark in style. The juicy blackberry fruits are constrained by a tight structure, minerality and a severe shell. The wine will need time to show it's true potential.
Wine AdvocateThe Leveque family has hit pay dirt again with this 2012 Graves. An inky, bluish/purple color, and an equal part blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, the wine shows terrific fruit, great purity, graphite and underlying earthy burning ember notes. It has medium body and loads of fruit, depth and light tannin in the finish, showing this wine can be drunk early, or cellared for up to a decade. A sleeper of the vintage.
Wine SpectatorThis sports a brambly feel, with leather and bay adding some funk to the core of blackberry, plum and black currant preserves. Turns a touch chewy on the finish, revealing a bitter espresso hint. Shows character, though the gamy rusticity isn't for everyone. Drink now through 2018.
