Château-Prieure-Lichine Margaux 2014
Wine EnthusiastBarrel Sample. Powerful tannins and ripe fruit notes set this wine up for a rich future. It has a dark, brooding quality, with smooth wood flavors and a creamy black-cherry aftertaste.
Wine AdvocateThe Château Prieuré-Lichine 2014 has a rather standoffish nose at first, but with a few swirls of the glass it opens up to reveal blackcurrant, raspberry and cassis scents with a light estuary influence just underneath (perhaps a whiff from the Gironde?) The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, lighter in style than other Margaux, but elegant and focused, the finish very harmonious with assiduously integrated new oak. Very fine. Tasted twice with consistent notes.
Wine SpectatorFocused, with a velvety beam of crushed plum and warm cherry notes flowing through the anise- and plum cake-accented finish. A little reliant on toast in the end, but the balance is there.
